BACKGROUND & PURPOSE

From land records to public knowledge.

My work began at sixteen in my grandfather’s petroleum land office in Casper, Wyoming. More than fifty years of oil and gas experience have connected landwork and lease brokerage with mineral title, contracts, royalties and project development.

That experience taught me to start with the underlying documents: identify the interest, trace the ownership, understand the agreement and test the explanation against the record.

Law and consequential systems

I earned a Bachelor of Arts at Pomona College, studying philosophy and religious studies, and a Juris Doctor at the University of Colorado Law School. My legal career has included years of litigation against the United States connected with helium recovery.

Legal work and petroleum land experience have shaped the questions I ask about authority, duties, ownership, evidence and accountability. They also inform my interest in making complicated systems understandable to the people affected by them.

Current professional work

West Sussex Energy Partners connects selective energy and mineral consulting with an open-access mineral and royalty owners’ library beginning in Wyoming. My interests include transactions, due diligence, ownership research, royalty analysis, project development and helium recovery and conservation.

Federal Claims Advisors and FederalClaims.us organize resources concerning tariffs, federal authority, trade compliance and the documentary public record.

The public libraries

Awake Foundation, VictimsGuide, HomeownersClaims.org, MilitaryClaims.us, SurvivorsGuide.org and CitizenLibrary.org address practical questions that can consume people’s time, money and choices when reliable information is difficult to find.

My aim is to build useful resources that knowledgeable contributors and future stewards can maintain and carry forward.
